ABOUT THE AREA AND LODGING

Brasstown is a charming, unincorporated community in Western North Carolina and is a gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains. If you are traveling in from out of town then we highly recommend arriving a few days early and/or staying a few days after the retreat to enjoy the natural beauty of this area. Check out this link for more information about things to do in the area and a few options for lodging. Lodging is not included with tuition.

There are also many choices for hotels about 6 miles away in Murphy, NC or you can choose to search AirBnB or your favorite vacation rental site for cabin or guest room rentals. You'll be able to enjoy nature on the grounds of the training facility too! There are goats, chickens, a garden and plenty of open space to take your shoes off and feel the grass under your feet. 

FOOD

Continental breakfast with gluten free options and fruit will be available each morning at 8:15am along with fresh water, hot coffee, tea, and light, healthy snacks throughout the day. A Thai-style lunch created by Chef Jeff will be served in a communal setting daily around 1pm on the screened-in porch and will include a different type of curry each day, stir-fried vegetables and rice. Continental breakfast and lunch ARE included with tuition.

For dinner you have the option to dine next door at The Crown, a farm to table, gluten free restaurant OR choose to spend some time on your own. Dinner is not included with tuition.

TRAINING

Thai massage training takes place between 9am - 6pm each day. Allow yourself to be rejuvenated by nature, uplifted by our community and inspired by this wonderful practice.

This is a beginner-friendly, all levels welcome 22CE event for licensed massage therapists. All Thai massage techniques are taught on a cushioned mat on the floor, requiring participants to sit, kneel and move around on the floor to complete the class. Each training day will start with a Thai Yoga self-care practice that will get us warmed up and ready to move.

Instructor Charlene Gaffney has been a licensed massage therapist for 21+ years and has over 18 years of teaching experience in both entry-level and continuing education environments. She is a registered instructor with the Thai Healing Alliance International, a Certified Massage and Bodywork Educator with the AFMTE and the founder/curriculum specialist for Elevate Massage Training. She has studied Thai massage and ashiatsu extensively with many reputable teachers in the US and Thailand and has led annual Thailand Study Tours for LMTs since 2016.

Day One and Day Two

Learn and share a full body sequence of massage, acupressure, joint mobilizations, bends and twists to relieve muscle tension, clear restricted patterns of movement, stimulate energy flow and restore balance. Receive an introduction to the Thai hot herbal compress.

Day Three

Morning : Learn and share Thai hot herbal compress techniques in a sequence for the face, neck and shoulders.

Afternoon : Put it all together. Give and receive the full sequence with a partner

INVESTMENT

Tuition includes :

• All three days of Thai massage training on the mat, a course manual and use of all necessary supplies for completing the course (prerequisite : Licensed Massage Therapist - you will be asked to provide your license number and state when you register)
• 22CE credits approved by the NCTMB #451520-10 Course Titles : Thai Massage Bend & Twist, Herbal Compress for Face, Neck and Shoulders, Instructor Charlene Gaffney
• Continental breakfast and lunch every day
• 10% off dinner (not including alcoholic beverages) at the restaurant next door.
