TRAINING
Our Ashiatsu courses are designed to build upon the principles of professional touch that are taught in massage school. Therefore, we require our students to have a license to practice massage therapy as a prerequisite to taking our Ashiatsu courses. Having this prerequisite allows us to place a strong focus on technique application during our classes. Our courses are classified as Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3.
Seated Barefoot Bodywork is a great Level 1 course to start your ashiatsu training with if you are eager to go barefoot but not quite ready for bars. If you already have some training on the bars then you'll find that these techniques are an effective complement to any standing work that you do. You'll be amazed at the amount of detailed massage that can be performed for the neck, shoulders and upper back. The body mechanics are a little different than what's required for working on the bars and you'll certainly need to learn how to engage your core and stretch your hip flexors! Once you get the hang of it, you and your clients will start to really look forward to this treatment and clients may not even realize that you are using your feet! LMTs who truly plan to add Seated Ashiatsu to their menu of services after taking this CE class are strongly advised to prepare with the proper space and equipment set up for completing practice sessions immediately after class. The instructor will provide guidance through the room set up process during class. Post-class practice is considered a necessary self-study component to each CE course. The important pieces of equipment you will need to be successful in your Seated Ashiatsu sessions are: a tall stool positioned at the head of your massage table with a wall behind you for leverage and support and an adjustable headrest for honoring the natural curvature of the cervical spine. You will also need to be able to lower your massage table enough to allow gravity to assist you with your pressure while you are seated on the stool.
Because the foot is a broader tool than a thumb or elbow it can disburse pressure over a wider area. This means that more pressure can be applied to those tight, stubborn tissues without causing pain or discomfort. Release chronic holding patterns, restore functional movement, bring fresh, oxygenated blood to the surface, speed recovery from intense activity and FINALLY give clients the pressure the have been craving WITHOUT burning yourself out.
Course Title : Seated Barefoot Bodywork Level 1 - Supine and Prone Positions. Sitting down on the job has never felt so good! This course will teach you how to sit at the head of the massage table and apply steady, gliding pressure with your feet. No overhead bars required to offer this upper body ashiatsu treatment on your menu of services.
At the end of this weekend immersion training LMTs will receive a CE certificate of completion to verify board approved continuing education and satisfy massage licensure renewal requirements. Additionally, LMTs will have a unique sequence of barefoot massage techniques that can be used as a stand-alone treatment or integrated in with other techniques as indicated with each client.
