Thai Massage Credentials : How to Earn Three Types of Certificates Through Training and Practice

Elevate Massage Training offers Thai Massage courses designed to build upon the principles of professional touch that are taught in massage school. Most states in the US require practitioners to have a massage therapy license to perform Thai Massage. Therefore, we require our students to have a license to practice massage therapy as a prerequisite to taking any of our Thai Massage courses. Having this prerequisite allows us to place a strong focus on technique application during our classes.

In this article we explain how LMTs can earn three different types of Thai Massage Certificates through training and practice :

  1. CE Completion Certificate (Step One)

  2. Therapist Certificate (Step Two)

  3. Endorsement Certificate (Step Three)

STEP ONE

A CE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE IS A RECORD OF PARTICIPATION THAT CONFIRMS A BASIC LEVEL OF COMPETENCY WITH THE TECHNIQUES PRESENTED AND PRACTICED IN CLASS.

We issue a CE Completion Certificate at the end of every training course to verify board approved continuing education and satisfy massage licensure renewal requirements.

To earn a CE Completion Certificate you must comply with our terms of service for training that require LMTs to :

  • fully participate in the course you sign up for and follow the terms of participation

  • abide by all registration and attendance policies

  • agree to the terms of use and ethical guidelines

Technically speaking, with an active massage license in the primary location(s) of practice students are legally able to use anything we teach in our classes at anytime providing that they follow the laws and rules of massage therapy as set forth in that area. To demonstrate a higher level of proficiency, however, therapists will need to complete some practice outside of class...

STEP TWO

LMTs WHO WANT TO MOVE BEYOND THE CE CREDITS AND CONFIDENTLY OFFER THAI MASSAGE ON THEIR MENU OF SERVICES ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE THE THERAPIST CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH TRAINING COURSE.

The requirements for our Therapist Certificate provide a self-study track toward proficiency in Thai Massage with clients outside of the classroom setting. To earn a Therapist Certificate for each course LMTs must :

  • RECEIVE A COMPLETION CERTIFICATE for the course

  • DOCUMENT AND SUBMIT the required number of PRACTICE SESSIONS after class on the official Elevate Massage Training forms that include an intake, a client feedback form and session notes. (Practice hour requirements are equal to the amount of time you spend in class. So, if you complete a 14hr course then you will document 14hrs of practice with the sequence of techniques in that course)

  • COMPLETE A CHECK OFF with the instructor for evaluation and feedback. (LMT and the instructor will decide what format to use for this check-off based on performance in class, geographical location and the results of documented practice sessions. Formats may include in-person, live webinar or video submissions.)

LMTs are eligible to receive one Therapist Certificate for each of our six core immersion courses on the mat :

Thai Open & Ground Therapist

(14hrs training, 14hrs documented practice, check-off)

Thai Stretch to Seated Therapist

(21hrs training, 21hrs documented practice, check-off)

Thai Bend & Twist Therapist

(14hrs training, 14hrs documented practice, check-off)

Thai Side Lying Therapist

(21hrs training, 21hrs documented practice, check-off)

Thai Core & More Therapist

(21hrs training, 21hrs documented practice, check-off)

Thai Hands-Free Therapist

(14hrs training, 14hrs documented practice, check-off)

Each Therapist Certificate contains the silver Elevate Massage Training seal and is suitable for framing to display credentials. Therapists also receive a shareable shout out on our graduate network and social media channels (if desired).

STEP THREE

To qualify for the ENDORSEMENT CERTIFICATE LMTs must first complete all training and practice requirements outlined in Step Two for each of our six core immersion courses on the mat. We do not offer an endorsement for Table Thai massage or any of our elective courses at this time.

THE ENDORSEMENT CERTIFICATE IS AN ADVANCED CREDENTIAL FOR LMTs WHO ARE READY TO TAKE THEIR MAT-BASED BODYWORK PRACTICE BEYOND THE SEQUENCES AND BECOME RECOGNIZED AS A THAI MASSAGE SPECIALIST.

To earn the endorsement LMTs must :

  • complete our five-day Advanced Thai Massage Intensive course

  • receive and document three Thai Massage sessions from approved therapists

  • complete a student/instructor exchange

  • attend a performance review

  • design five customized Thai Massage sessions

Upon completion of the Advanced Thai Massage Intensive course and all post-class requirements outlined above LMTs will have achieved over 250 hours of training and practice! We will then award the Endorsement Certificate for framing and displaying credentials and an optional listing on our therapist directory with link exchange.
